Opportunity Lost: TB 2 - BUF 3

Just as the door opened for the Bolts with Atlanta's loss in Philly, it was slammed shut Friday night by the Sabres. Buffalo came into Tampa and handed the Lightning their 2nd loss in as many games, with a 3-2 victory at the Forum Friday night. The Bolts got on the board first when Vinny Lecavalier ripped a Martin St. Louis feed past Buffalo goalie Ryan Miller at 2:11 in the first. Buffalo answered in dramatic fashion, ripping off 3 in a row, two by Jason Pominville (7:29 & 10:24) and one by Derek Roy (8:05), to close out the first period up 3-1. Neither team tallied a goal in the second period. The Lightning's second goal came at 4:38 in the third period on pass by Lecavalier that was directed into the Sabre net by goalie Ryan Miller. The two goals increased Vinny's season total to a league leading 48. The loss was made that much worse by the Thrashers getting an OT win against the Rangers up in Atlanta. The Lightning now trail Atlanta by 4 points in the Southeast with one game in hand. The Bolts will now head to the Nation's capitol to face Ovechkin and the Caps Sunday at 1:00 pm EST.
