Springfield Out, Norfolk In?

After a three years with the Springfield Falcons, the Lightning may be ready to find a new minor-league affiliate.

Reports have Springfield and Tampa Bay mutually terminating their affiliate agreement two years early. The two team agreed to their contract last season, but there is an opt-out clause that states if one wants to end the relationship, then there must be a replacement for both sides.

On the Lightning side of the deal, the Bolts would move their farm team to Norfolk, Va., with Edmonton coming in to Springfield. Norfolk is currently the minor-league affiliate of the Blackhawks and is in the final year of their contract with the team. Edmonton currently does not have a minor-league affiliate.
