Tarnasky Nets Winner: TB 5 - WSH 4 (SO)

In the 10th round of the shoutout, John Tortorella called Nick Tarnasky's number, and the Rocky Mountain House, Alberta native was able to do what 9 of his teammates couldn't...beat Brent Johnson. The shootout goal was Tarnasky's first ever as a pro. ""Not just in the NHL - my first ever as a pro," Tarnasky said. "All I'm thinking is 'I've got one move, I'm going to try it and I hope it works." The game was back and forth, with the top two lines doing the scoring for the Lightning who faced a 3-1 deficit early. Down 3-1, early in the second, the Bolts got within one on a goal from Fedotenko. Down 3-2 in the third, the Lightning tied it on a shorty by Lecavalier, his 42nd of the year. The Lightning took the lead on a goal by Marty St. Louis, but it was short lived as the Refs gave Washington a 5-3 power play late in the third they used to tie the game and send it to overtime. Lighting broadcaster Bobby "The Chief" Taylor wondered out loud if the Referee calling the game had "ever ref'd a sport in his life." In overtime, Holmqvst came up big shutting out 10 of the Caps, and Nick Tarnasky got the winner, his first ever shootout chance and goal. The win moved the Lightning 4 points up on idle Atlanta for the Southeast lead.

New aquisition Shane O'Brien recorded his first point as a member of the Lightning, an assist. He also had 2 penalty minutes.
Stewart played 7:57. Ward played 5:10 neither recorded a point.
