Ward Signs with Bolts

The Lightning locked up wing Jason Ward for two-years at $1.35-million, for a cap hit of $675,000 per year. Ward, 28, was acquired from the Los Angeles Kings in exchange for a fifth-round draft choice at trade deadline in February after beginning the season with the New York Rangers. In 70 combined games with New York, Los Angeles and Tampa Bay Ward had eight goals and 11 assists, including four goals and eight points in 17 games with the Lightning. He was scheduled to be an unrestricted free agent on July 1. He mostly played on the second line with center Brad Richards, had plenty of penalty-kill and power-play time and became one of the team's best forecheckers. "I'm with a team that was excited to have me, " said Ward "It would have been foolish to go anywhere else."
